What Rockstar has actually said
Rockstar describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience at launch. That is the confirmed part: when you boot the game on November 19, 2026 (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, digital-only), you get Jason and Lucia's story - not an online mode. Rockstar has said nothing official about when the new GTA Online arrives, how it will be delivered, or what it will be called. Every specific date circulating right now comes from leakers and insiders, not from Rockstar.
The GTA 5 precedent: a two-week gap and a broken launch
History is the best guide we have. GTA 5's story mode launched on September 17, 2013; GTA Online followed two weeks later, on October 1, 2013. And it launched badly - servers failed for days, characters and money vanished, and Rockstar eventually paid every player a $500,000 in-game "stimulus" as an apology. If GTA 6 Online follows the same playbook, expect a short gap after November 19, a rocky first week or two, and rapid patching.
What insiders claim (rumor, not confirmed)
Credible GTA insiders - including Tez2, historically one of the most reliable sources on Rockstar - point to roughly December 2026 for the new GTA Online. Some reports go further and suggest it may arrive as a separate download, or even be sold separately from the base game. To be clear: none of this is confirmed. It fits the GTA 5 precedent and Rockstar's single-player-first framing, which is why we treat December as the working estimate - but it is a rumor until Rockstar says otherwise, and we'll update this page the moment there's an official date.
What this means for money-making and glitches
The gap between the single-player launch and the online launch splits the money scene in two. From November 19, the only money that exists is story money - earned through missions and heists, and possibly exploitable through single-player dupes and mission loops. Will your GTA Online money and progress transfer?
No transfer has been confirmed, and everything points to a fresh start. Nothing carried over from GTA 4's multiplayer to GTA Online in 2013, and Rockstar has confirmed that GTA Online (the current one) keeps running with continued support after GTA 6 launches - which strongly suggests the two economies stay separate. Don't grind GTA Online money now expecting to spend it in GTA 6.
